The Korea Daily’s Economic Forum

Sponsored by Bank of Hope, Hanmi Bank, PCB Bank & CBB Bank

Background
The Korea Daily, established in 1974, is the largest Korean media group in the United States, serving international & national news coverage in Korean to our communities.
In celebration of the 45th Anniversary of The Korea Daily and given the media’s strong relations with various Korean banks, the opportunity arose to host an event that would delve into the state of the US economy and create a discussion space for those Bank’s leaders and stakeholders.

Challenge
Some members of the Korean community are not fluent in English, making it difficult for them to comprehend the ever-changing financial news and discussions.
With the US economy in constant flux, there was a need to provide Korean-speaking individuals with insights into the current economic landscape and future projections.
Many of these banks provide in-language services to the public, and serve in many ways than others; which The Korea Daily wanted to empower and give back to.

Solution
To address these challenges, the concept of hosting an Economic Forum came to light; bringing together representatives from the major Korean Banks of Bank of Hope, Hanmi Bank, PCB Bank, and CBB Bank, to engage with specialists and experts of the American economy, in Korean.
Two live-time interpreters were hired to provide in-language services in both Korean and English, enabling attendees to receive live-time translations through provided earphones.
Esteemed speakers were carefully selected and invited from notable organizations to provide insights.

  • Tyler Laferriere (Associate Economist, Institute for Applied Economics, LA County Economic Development Corporation)

  • Michael Smith (Director of International Trade, World Trade Center of Los Angeles)

  • Kevin Klowden (Executive Director, Milken Institute’s Center for Regional Economics and California Center)

  • Tim Schaefer (CA Deputy Treasurer of Public Finance)

  • Jeffrey Prang (LA County Assessor)

Detailed planning and execution, including venue decoration, lighting, catering, event program creation were handled by our team for 200 attendees.
The event program, introduction of speakers, and running of the show was done by myself as the Master of Ceremony, in both English and Korean.

Results
The 45th Annual Anniversary and first Economic Forum hosted & organized by The Korea Daily achieved outstanding results.

All tickets to the economic forum were sold out, reflecting the strong interest & demand for such an event within the Korean community.

Attendees, including bank representatives, left the event with a deeper understanding of the American economic landscape and future outlook, particularly in the context of the Korean community.
The event not only fulfilled its educational purpose but also celebrated The Korea Daily’s 45th anniversary, creating a memorable experience for all attendees.

The forum served as a valuable platform for engagement between The Korea Daily, the banking sector, and the Korean community, strengthening relationships and community ties.

The successful execution of the 45th Annual Anniversary Economic Forum underscores The Korea Daily’s commitment to providing valuable information to its readership while celebrating its longstanding presence in the Korean media landscape.
